Edinburgh University Computer Gaming Society, more commonly refered to as GameSoc, is Edinburgh University's only society dedicated to playing video games whether you like to waggle a wiimote or survive off of redbull and chocolate during a 24 hour LAN (we host one in Semester 2!). Speaking of LANs, gamesoc runs a LAN approximately every 3 weeks throughout the academic year from 10:30am til 10pm in the Teviot Dining Room. We'll have various computer games running throughout the event so bring your laptop (or your full gaming rig if you fancy) to participate (and a CAT5 cable/ethernet cable/internet cable type thingie if you have one). Alternately we'll have the society consoles up and running with tournaments running throughout the day.
Ontop of our LANs we provide banter, an excuse to procrastinate and the chance to get ridiculously drunk on Jaeger bombs (as has happened in the past) in the form of our weekly Pubnight on a Thursday at 8:30pm at the Auld Hoose beginning in week 1 of first semester. This is a great oppurtunity to get to know other people from the society and generally have a good laugh. Plus we get a 15% discount on food. Om nom nom.
We also organise big nights out throughout the year (as well as the impromptu ones after a pub night). One of our membership benifits is a free societies VIP card for the Hive giving you queue jump and discounted or free entry throughout the week, even at non society nights out!
What more could you ask for? Well ontop of all of this we've managed to get all our members a one third discount at Twitch Gaming Centre! We'll also be organising gaming evenings in the centre at a discounted rate and even some inter-society matches.
Lastly there should be a smattering of non-alcohol, non-video-game related socials including laser quest and some paintballing!
So to join/find out more/mock the committee mercilously your best bet is to find us at one of our many events. Membership is priced at £5 for students and £10 for non-students (£4student/£8non-student if you pay us in cash during fresher's week!) and this will get you all our LANs (excluding the 24 hour LAN) for free along with your Hive VIP card and Twitch discount. Alternately for non-members (eg if you want to bring a friend along as a one off) LANs are priced at £2 for students and £4 for non-students.
