The Edinburgh Ecology Society has its’ roots in the Forestry Society founded in 1919. Over the past 80 or so years it has born different names and different aims, but the heart has endured, a reverence and interest in the natural world. Ecology is a science of systems, our members echo this sentiment with a wide spectrum of interests ranging from zoology to sustainable development. We offer a medium for a diversified knowledge base to come together, share ideas, and learn collectively.
We actively recruit professionals to come and lecture about all things concerning natural science, giving members a chance to get involved in projects, excursions, and extended learning. Talks are not only a excellent chance to learn an ecological subject in greater depth but also to gain a tangible perspective on work involved in modern ecology. With members & friends at all levels of the academic experience, the society is a place where peer support shines. Our group is not only outstandingly knowledgeable but also warm and approachable. Creative outings and pub meetings are held regularly and are ripe with opportunities to meet new people and indulge in eco antics.
Please come along to a meeting to find out more and become a member. Students’ annual membership fee is £4 and entitles you to free entry at society lectures, discounts on excursions & drinks during pub meetings. You can also find us on Facebook (Edinburgh University Ecology Society), and you can sync to our Google Calendar to keep up with events.
